Sweater // Polo // Pant // Belt // Shoe
I’m gonna show my cards. There’s no use in keeping this dirty little secret of mine alive any longer. I’ve never really understood the notion of “smart” when it comes to dress codes. Oftentimes you’ll see little notes like “smart casual” or “smart dress” on invitations, but do you really know what that means? Everything is going smoothly with your outfit choice until until you arrive on your event and realize you’re completely underdressed. You suddenly regret not asking or researching what “smart casual” actually means.
Well my friends, now that we’ve cleared the air and bonded over a mythical dress code can we discuss how to proceed with “smart” dressing? And no, this dressing isn’t for your salad. Fashion brand Ted Baker has always exuded forward-thinking style in their campaigns and the Spring/Summer collection is overflowing with ways to smarten up your wardrobe choices. In this outfit, I’ve showcased their lean towards rich reds in the polo design and vivid blue accents perfected in this sweater. Attention to detail is of the utmost importance when showing this new side of style. With link-stitching on this sweater, it brings both texture and increased durability to sleek cotton and silk-blend knitwear.
I love the pop of color the coral tinted polo provides under the sweater as well, when it comes to smart styling you must be a bit bolder and match your Spring trends wisely. You may notice that my shoe choice is, well, unconventional. This is where it is important to show off a bit of your personality as well. When smart dress is requested, allow yourself a little wiggle room. I am constantly on the go, so a chic sandal suits me well for a dapper look that also expresses my nature.
If you’ve got the “smarts”, don’t be afraid to start.
